Why tripod play a major role in landscape photography

tripod

Tripod will play a major role in your photography journey surely. Why is it that important to our day-to-day photography life? in life, many things give stability but in photography, a tripod gives stability to our images. Yes, many modern cameras and lenses came with in-build image stabilization systems and modern technologies. But still, we need a tripod in mainly landscape photography and wildlife photography. Most of the time we have to shoot At very low shutter speeds. So that is the time the tripod will come into consideration. Without a tripod, we are unable to use that kind of shutter speed.

5 reasons why you should have a tripod

  1. To maintain the image quality
  2. In long-exposure photography
  3. To stabilize heavy lenses
  4. In Astrophotography
  5. To take HDR images or exposure bracketing

Let’s talk in deeply, about why we actually need a tripod to improve our skills in landscape photography!

01. To maintain the image quality

Many people consider image quality in their photographs more. That is why many people purchase expensive cameras and lenses. But there is no quality image without a quality system. In that case, you need a mount. Most of the time, as a landscape photographer I have to shoot early in the morning or at night time. Those times are more challenging with low light conditions. At that time, we can’t sacrifice our effort by increasing the ISO level. So, that time we can use a tripod and decrease our shutter speed and make a good image without sacrificing our image quality.

02. Tripod In long-exposure photography

As a landscape photographer, long exposures will make your image gallery up to the next level. That opens door to another world actually. Most of the time we can capture seascapes or waterscapes in or after the golden hour into the long exposure shots even without using ND filters. But we need ND filters in daytime shootings like waterfalls and things.

So in this case, we have to go too low shutter speeds. In that, we cannot do using a handheld. If so, it will affect the image quality. So, on this occasion, we have to take the help of a mount. Using a tripod, we can create some amazing long-exposure images.

03. To stabilize heavy lenses

We have to use some monster-heavy lenses in wildlife or landscape photography most of the time. Some modern telephoto prime lenses are actual monsters. So, it is impossible to shoot handheld many times. Most of the time in wildlife photography, we have to live with our camera system for days and days while capturing our compositions. It is very hard to handle that kind of system without a tripod. In that case, tripod will be a lifesaver.

04. In Astrophotography

This is the field many landscape photographers are dreaming of. Most of us try to capture the milky way or star trails at some point in our life. That will give satisfaction to our journey. So, to do that, we need a tripod. We can’t even think of Astro or night photography without a tripod. Because we have to go down to extremely low shutter speeds to do that. It is impossible to shoot handheld. You can use some natural things as a tripod. But we surely need to stabilize our camera system in Astrophotography. That is one reason why we need a tripod in landscape photography.

05. To take HDR images or exposure bracketing

As landscape photographers, we use exposure bracketing to combine multiple exposures most of the time. Or else we have to use High Dynamic Range (HDR) images to do that. To do that we have to take multiple images using multiple exposures without changing the composition or the frame. We have to use this technique because most of the time landscape photographers have to deal with a huge dynamic range. Because of that, we have to play with highlights and shadows. So, using HDR or exposure bracketing, we can fix this issue. To do that, we surely need a tripod. Without using a tripod, it is very hard and may affect the image quality badly.

So, those are the points I want to highlight that the usage of a mount in landscape photography.
